Will we meet before the birth?
Yes! Well mostly yes. I like to meet with all my moms at about 35 weeks. We go over what to expect, what moments you do or do not want captured, your birth plan, and discuss everything to insure that this story is yours.
Why hire a photographer? Why not let dad or Doula take them for me?
You not only benefit from getting beautiful images but your supporters can focus on you and be in the pictures as well. No one has to worry about getting the camera out of the bag, making sure its on the right setting, and missing moments from being focused on trying to capture them... they can enjoy those moments with you. Professional photographers not only have the right equipment but know how to work in harsh lighting, capture quick moments, and respect the birth process entirely. Having knowledge of the labor and delivery process means that when those most important moments are happening, I'm not missing a beat. Dads and Doula's are best preform their roles when they are souley focused on mom and baby and not fumbling for a camera.
When should I hire a birth photographer?
I always say its never to early or to late to book a photographer. But I do only take 2-3 births a month to keep overlapping at a minimum . Its best to book early in your second trimester but to make sure get a spot for your babies birth day book as soon as you can. When your deposit and contract is in then your are officially booked!
When do you arrive to start documenting my birth story?
I like to arrive when you are 5-6 cm. This tells me that you are in active labor. But this will also depend on your delivery history and birth plan, this can change when I may arrive. Also how your feelings on how labor is progressing will determine when I will arrive to the hospital.
What is the turn around time?
I tend to post , with your permission, a facebook sneak peek. Then I will have your blog post up with in a week, and your photos on a CD with copyright in two weeks. I try to get them all done as soon as possible. But being on call at all times for births it can change things:)
What if my labor is SUPER long?
Once I arrive to a birth I typically do not leave. I make take a break and or give you alone time, but I do not leave the birth place, I am there to document your story. So if your story is SUPER long then so be it!
Exactly how much do you "show" of the birth?
This is all up to you. We will discuss this at our meet and greet to make sure how extent you are comfortable with. When displaying my work on Facebook, blog or else where I only display modest photographs and video clips.
What are your travel restrictions?
I am only comfortable with traveling 40 miles outside of Box Elder county. But with that said I will take all birth stories in considerations. Please contact me if it is outside of 40 miles.
Do you post my photos on Facebook and your blog?
This again is up to you. We discuss this at our meet and greet. I respect your privacy. Please keep in mind that my business if ran mostly from social media. But this is your story done your way!
Do you interact with us at all?
I tend to be a "fly on the wall". But if you talk to me I will make conversation back with you. I go with the vibe in the room. I very much respect the birth process and do not want to interfere in anyway.
What happens in case of a C-section?
All births, no matter what form it takes, is beautiful and deserves to be documented. It is ultimately your decision if you would like me in the OR with you. Most OR's now a days do not allow but one support person to be in there. In this case I will be more then happy to hand my camera over to your support person and allow them to shot with it, its very simple. I also have seen that nurses are more then happy to help with photos in the OR as well. I then will continue shooting once your out of the OR and recovery!
Do you just photograph birth stories?
Birth stories are my specialty but I do also offer maternity, breast feeding, first 48 hours, lifestyle newborn/family session and newborns in my home. I haven't turned away a session I've been asked to shot yet!
